To begin, I want to write about my college experience, and how much it has helped me throughout my life, and the skills I have learned. I now have much more knowledge in my writing that I didn’t before, learning from other students and teachers has really helped me to grow as a person, even though I still have much to learn, I feel like I had come a long way from where I started. I have confidence now that I didn’t have before, and I have learned valuable knowledge that I can take with me throughout the rest of my life in my career and in general.
I have learned so many subjects I never knew about, especially different religions and about different parts of the world in my history class. I also learned a lot about sociology. I learned about religions such as Buddhism, and about the self and no self and about meditation and the different practices though the religion. I also learned about Islam about the belief in only one god, and how many deities are not accepted. I also learned about Mormons and their strong belief in Jesus. I had many misconceptions about these religions before I studied them, but now I feel less ignorant and that I understand these cultures much better just through knowing about their religions and beliefs. I feel more enriched as a student knowing what I know now in these subjects. It has also made it much more memorable for me, and worthwhile.
Also, psychology was quite the memorable experience for me. I feel very appreciative that I was able to have taken it, psychology was the first course I took in college, I enjoyed it so much I took another one. I feel like these classes made me understand a lot about how our minds work. I learned the different stages of the life cycle from infancy to adulthood. I also learned a lot about memory, and neurotransmitters, dopamine, serotonin and nor epinephrine. I hope to learn and know more about psychology in the future, because it is valuable knowledge in understanding behaviors, relationships, and people in general.
My experience as a student, especially in English, has helped me gain knowledge about Seminars, writing as the first person, and how to communicate better. Had I not decided to attend Everett Community College, I would not have known about The Boys in the Boat and how unique the story has been so far. I also wouldn’t have know about how writing is comprised of different steps that you can repeat over and over until you get results you want. My confidence as a writer has grown a lot in just a few short weeks. Also, reading has given me insight to be able to understand what it is like to live during that time period and understand what people have been through in their lives and during the Great Depression. This subject has been interesting to learn and has given me the knowledge to recognize story writing methods as well as helped me to become more versatile in my writing, which will improve my career in the future to come.
In summary, everything I learned in college has really helped me to grow as a person, and has in many ways enriched my life. It is a memory I will never forget. I have learned so much about diversity, have enhanced my study skills, and have learned a lot of concepts I didn’t know before. I especially learned a lot about people and how to understand them better, which I think will be very helpful in my career in the future, and even in life in general.
I also now know how meaningful critical thinking is, I have learned in many different situations not to be afraid to ask questions, because every answer has made me a much more well rounded person overall.
All of this knowledge is irreplaceable, I feel blessed that I have achieved so much in my studies, and especially because I once lived in the Middle East for a little bit, and had to stop attending school while I was there. Being there made me appreciate what I have now, and helped me to take a better direction and view of life and my future career decision.
If I could go back in time and change anything or any of the memorable experiences I had in college or just in life, I wouldn’t change a thing. I am happy for life and today. This memorable and valuable experience has helped me to grow in many ways, and hopefully more to come.
