In the novel The Outsiders the character I chose wasPonyboy. Ponyboy was a good kid but he has just oneproblem, he is a greaser.

The greasers are a gang that noone really likes. They are the under privileged poor kids.They have one major rival gang, the Socs. Socs stands forsocials, they are the complete opposite of the greasers, theyare the rich kids. One day after Ponyboy and his friendJohnny took two Soc girls out to the movies, they werewalking home when five Socs jumped them. The Socs weremad at them for taking their girls on dates.

Bob (one of theSocs) was about to drown Ponyboy in a fountain whenJohnny lost it and stabbed him. The Socs ran and so didJohnny and Ponyboy. After this incident happened they ranto a church outside of town. One day the church catches onfire. Johnny and Ponyboy save the kids that were playing inthe abandoned church. Johnny pushed Ponyboy out of thechurch right as the roof caved in killing Johnny. Ponyboy andJohnny were heroes. They ruled that Ponyboy was justfighting back in self-defense.

Ponyboy eventually writes abook about what has happened to him, the book thatPonyboy starts to write, starts the same way the novel starts.Ponyboy is a nice kid that’s parents were killed in a carcrash when he was young. Ponyboy has light brown almostred hair, and greenish-gray eyes. He has long hair that issquared off in the back. Ponyboy is a skittish kid; he wasalways worried about getting jumped by the Socs.

But whenyou are a greaser walking on the streets alone, you have theright to worry about being jumped by the Socs. Ponyboydoes a lot of growing up in the book that makes him adynamic character. He has to cope with a lot of frustrationwith his two older brothers and with the Socs. He handles itpretty well until one day when he was being jumped by theSocs he spit on one of them that started a brawl thatescalated into a murder. Ponyboy has a good relationshipwith Johnny. Johnny saved Ponyboy’s life by killing a Socwhen the Soc was drowning Ponyboy.

Ponyboy and Johnnyhave to hide out in an old abandoned church together. Theywere best friends. Johnny’s last words to Ponyboy were"Stay gold, Ponyboy.

Stay gold…" This says that Johnnythought that Ponyboy was a great person, and that hewanted.
