Technology is a huge influence on society and human behavior. It helps us to experience life more easily, but we depend on it too much so it brings us many disadvantages. It has many negative effects such as weakening communication among family members. Admittedly, nowadays it is less common for families to be sitting around to communal discussion.
First of all, one of the most influential technological devices and always appearing in our life that is smartphones. It is an important invention because it enables people to contact other people. At the same time, with the smartphone or tablet, it mostly encroached on the time that should be spent for personal rest as well as many other activities. Many people have smartphones and they use them almost continuously. The smartphone can be more addictive more than alcohol, drugs and other stimulants.
According to an article of technology and mind, Merlo points out that: “if someone can’t get through dinner without sending text messages or furiously typing on a personal digital assistant during a meeting, it may be time to take a step back”(April 195). Many of us feel uncomfortable being separation by smartphones in just a moment. It can lead to problems with your back and neck and reducing our health. Secondly, new research shows that addiction to these technologies can cause chemical imbalances in the brain and disturbed life.
In the article Does the Internet Make You Dumber? Nicholas argues that: ” People who read text studded with links, the studies show, comprehend less than those who read traditional linear text. People who watch busy multimedia presentations remember less than those who take in information in a more sedate and focused manner”(Nicholas 196).Moreover, technology causes various illness. Similarly, the most important working tool for office workers is a computer. However, sitting on the computer for a long time on a desktop or laptop computer can lead to health hazards that few expect. Besides, staring at radiation emitted by the computer’s screen is harmful to eyes.
It creates tension, fatigue and even dry eyes. Yet, it can cause myopia in people with good vision; also it is increased myopia for those who are nearsighted. Thirdly, the blame is for students to abuse the use of technologies such as tablets, laptops, or smartphones and the internet. Because of this, students are hesitant to learn.
And so, to save time, many of student has taken full advantage of the ability to copy and paste on their work mechanically, passively to complete the task of teachers without knowing the self-deductive. Likewise, in one experiment conducted at Cornell University demonstrated that “students who browsed the Web performed much worse on a subsequent test of how well they retained the lecture content. While it’s hardly surprising that Web surfing would distract students”(Nicholas 197).
Lastly, television is also one of the most obvious negative effects. Each person’s time budget is limited. The more time you spend on television, the less time you spend on other things such as spend time with your family members or other activities. In addition, those parents who are interested in watching television programs that can make their kids are following them and become addicted to television. Meanwhile, there has been a lot of research showing the negative effects of television on the development of children due to lazy to exercise and do other outdoor activities. In conclusion, technologies have truly revolutionized communication and made human life easier and more comfortable both in work and in the entertainment world.
However, something too much is not good either. Consequently, in addition to the undeniable benefits of these technologies, they are also responsible for a number of new diseases in the digital age. Therefore, experts recommend that users should rest regularly and avoid using too many devices.
