Stella is torn between her sister and her husband. Blanche, Stella’s sister, arrived to Stella’s house a changed person and her husband Stanley and her sister do become friends. Blanche’s new personality gives Stella different perspective of her sister. When she begins hearing stories about Blanche she becomes very indecisive, not knowing whether to side with her husband or her sister. She first sides with her sister, making excuses for Blanche’s odd behavior. She explains to Stanley, “You didn’t know Blanche as a girl. Nobody, nobody, was tender and trusting as she was. But people like you abused her, and forced her to change”(Williams 136). Stella yells at Stanley telling him that what he did was wrong and ignorant. She takes her sister’s side of the argument, but a few moments after the dispute we see Stella’s other side when she tells Stanley, “Take me to the hospital”(138). Stella alternate side is displayed, Stanley is the father of her child so she can’t stay on Blanche’s side. The predicament results in Stella’s taking of Stanley’s side when Stella decides to send her sister to a mental hospital so her and Stanley can raise their child peacefully. Her final decision is produced when Blanche tells her that Stanley rapde her. Stella later tells Eunice, “I couldn’t believe her story and go on living with Stanley”(165). Stella’s final decision was to side with Stanley. She had the option of believing Blanche’s story, that Stanley raped her sister, but she decides not to believe it. She decides to keep on living with her husband for her child’s sake. Stella’s indecisivity results in her staying with her rapist husband and sending her neurostatic sister to a mental hospital.
