” DISCUSS THE SIGNIFICANT OF SCRIPT BREAKDOWN PROCESS IN FILMMAKING”
MUHAMAD ISKANDAR BIN ABDULLAH
Script breakdown is the process of analyzing the script to determine all of the components out of which it is have made. When we want to breakdown the script, systematically we build the list of everything from characters, props, and location to the special effects, and costumes. The process breakdown the script and the analysis and decisions you will make when doing your breakdown where will generate the data that is required to prepare a budget and schedule for shoot.
Breaking down a script is not just a suggestion, it is an essential step towards starting the production. During the script breakdown process to create a number of list and schedules, but more importantly, when want to develop an understanding of script that will be necessary for answering the thousands of questions will come up during production. So the main concern is simply to create readable, understanding the lists of every element that will be required to shoot each scene and that also the begining of the budgeting process.
Filmmaking is the process of making a film. Filmmaking typically involves three phases which is preproduction, production, and postproduction. In preproduction, preparation are made for recording the film footage. During production, the film is shot on set with the cast and crew.
PROCESS OF SCRIPT BREAKDOWN
Beginning of the breakdown of the script, is need to split up it into sections. Having this script is easy because the feature has been divided into the scene. Create multiple sheets for each section. Provide a reasonable title sheet and description of the event if necessary. Your different crew members may need to read this sheet and it is important that they understand each of your production segments.
First, the initial element for a fraction of a script is to check the number at the beginning of each scene. This is because the number of the scene is very important for the work done. The second element to check is the location of the scene. Where when writing a location name on a script fragmented sheet, it should be written in the same way as it is written in the script, to avoid confusion. If the location is unclear in the script, one should contact the script writer to clarify it in more detail. The third one is to pay attention to how many scenes are needed inside and how many scenes outside. This is because it is a very important thing which affects the estimation of movie trips and schedules.
Mark the elements of the script by category and use different colored markers for each element that needs attention. More things to look at are clothing actors, special effects used, any special equipment, any clothing needed.
For script fragments the script should be table with information such as number and scene name, page appear in script, location, inland, day or night, required characters, props and special notes such as wardrobe, set of clothes. The description of the scene must be brief and if there is a storyboard on the scene, it needs to be attached.
On each sheet, write the characters or actors needed for the scene as well as the prop, the location and the set. If the camera is a lot of this camera is used, and specify the number of cameras needed. The withdrawal must list all additional tools that may be required.
On each sheet, list the characters or actors that are required for that scene as well as props, locations and sets. If this multi-camera shoot, and list down how many cameras needed. Production must list all of the supplemental materials that might be required.
The guests that must be contacted and scheduled for every activities. So the main concern is simply to create readable, understandable to lists down to every element that will be required into the shoot of each scene in script. This is the chance how to learn about to coordinate. This is also the data where you will use to begin the budgeting process in filmmaking.
The process of breaking down a script must follow the procedure to make it more systematic. Firstly, read script carefully through, with an open mind, as a spectator. Second, identify each scene number, after that mark the portion in eighths of page that the scene covers. Lastly, transfer that all information to a breakdown form. Do the same process to every scene until the end of the script. The most important when breakdown script is identifying resources is the process of making each element you will need and assigning it to its proper category when breakdown script. This is because each scene contains more visual or audio categories, such as cast, vehicles, props, wardrobe and more.
That shows why the script breakdown is an important in filmmaking process that allows to determine and list up every single element production needed to prep, schedule and budgeting in filmmaking.
