DISCUSSION:

This study was done to assess the prescription
pattern of commonly used drugs in stroke patients in Saveetha medical college
in Chennai. In this study, 40 stroke patients were included. Risk factors of
stroke are obesity (>30kg/m2), hypertension, chronic cardiac failure and
physical inactivity. Most commonly prescribed drugs are Clopidogrel+aspirin,
strocit, ecosporin, optineuron forte and storvas (to decrease cholesterol level.
Clopidogrel + aspirin  is used more
commonly than strocit. In this study, drug combination prescribed for the
patients are mentioned.

In
this study, Comorbidities associated with stroke includes Epilepsy, Systemic
hypertension, CCF, Diabetes, Gastric ulcer. From previous studies, the
associated comorbidities with diabetes are hypertension, UTI, COPD.

CONCLUSION:

Stroke
is a deadly disease with no known curable treatments. However, its
complications can be reduced through proper awareness and timely treatment. It
is important to keep the blood cholesterol levels of patients under strict
control for avoiding the complications. Since it is associated with morbidity
and mortality, it requires appropriate treatment for better life which aids in
drug prescription. This study shows that Clopidogrel+aspirin (72.5%) and
Strocit (37.5%) is the commonly prescribed drug than optineuron forte (32.5%)
and Ecosporin (20%). Strovas (70%) is the most common drug prescribed to
decrease the blood cholesterol level. The treatment should aim at reducing the
incidence of secondary stroke attack with drug combination therapy.
