Re:Topic 2 DQ 2The nursing paradigm consists of the concepts of person, environment, health/illness, and nursing (Friberg , Creasia 2016).The ANA defines nursing as follows:Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, facilitation of healing, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations.
The ANA’s definition of nursing’s main focus to me appears to be geared towards health promotion and disease prevention through education and earlier diagnosis of disease in communities and population. The person is the community/population. The environment is the social norms and physical surroundings of the community.
Health and illness would be the chronic diseases and common health issues within that community. I think is this a great application of the nursing paradigm in today’s world with the rise of chronic illnesses such as diabetes. According to the World Health Organization, “worldwide, the number of people with diabetes has substantially increased between 1980 and 2014, rising from 108 million to current numbers that are around four times higher.”
