Many individuals think that this career is for people that have money but is not really about the actor and his or her duty, it’s really all about the individual they are working with. I love the fact that doctors treat people like if it was their life, it’s not love for the money its love for the society. People often ask me why did choose this particular career path, and the only response I give them is that its amazing to help people and that I want to serve people in need no matter the circumstances.In all around the world there are so many types of doctors that are specialized in different fields.

What is a general practitioner? According to the Occupational Outlook Handout a general practitioner is a doctor that examines patients, takes medical histories, and prescribes medications. (Pug. 466) They look after people from birth to death and all in between. (Video) usually a general practitioner has long-term patients because they are the ones that mainly focus on injuries and infections.They have this type of job mainly because they love people and they don’t want to see you suffering.

(Dry. Orator). The question is this, what personality characteristic is likely required for this career? In most careers, as a professional you need to be expansible and respectful. A general practitioner must be very compassionate and caring person. (Shells, Page 2, 2007) Anybody could say that their personality matches with their future career but not at all. Some characteristics do match and other you just have to learn to get where you desire to be.I believe that my personality matches with this career because I am a person that is organized, has compassion towards others and care about people. As a student I will learn how to become a better person not just with my personal life, but also with my career because in the future I will be leaning with life and death situations and all the responsibility and decisions will come from me.

You may be thinking ” Oh anybody can do that” but in reality these are just the first few steps that any college student and future general practitioner have to learn to be a better professional.It takes a great deal of time to become a general practitioner. Some people may think it takes 4 years to become a doctor, others believe it takes approximately 8 years. But does people really know what type of education and training is required for this career? A student is required to go to undergraduate school for 4 years and complete their work of biology, chemistry physics, math and English. After the student has completed undergraduate school they have go to medical school for 4 more years.Within those years they must enter an internship and residency programs that take approximately 3-8 years depending their specialty.

Almost every student start there training with volunteering work at a local hospital or clinic to gain experience. During the last 2 years students work with patients under the supervision of an experience physician. (Pug. 468) It takes approximately 1 16 years to graduate and become a general practitioner. Over the last 30 years debt has been a necessary thing to become a doctor. Around 80% of each medical student will graduate in debt that cost an average of $1 58,000.Almost a third of students owed more than $200,000 and this number will increase adding the interest over payback period of 25 to 30 years.

(Pauline, 2011) A general practitioner doctor can go further in their studies in a specific field of interest but it s always recommended to practice as a general doctor before specializing in the field of medicine or surgery. (Dry. Anton) It is way better to graduate with a career and a debt that you know one day in the future you will pay than not having a career at all. We were all born with our brains empty and as time passed by we all learned thing in a slow or a fast phase.Just like in elementary school our old teachers taught us how to add, subtract, multiply and divide to keep learning those basic stuff for you to master your math skills.

Typically the only skill that a freshman in college has is the one have right now of being organized and to get where I want to be it’s not enough. As for medical students there are 7 ere important skills that will be needed to become a general practitioner. The individual should have excellent judgment, need the ability to work under stress and pressure, have emotional stability, stamina, organized and detail oriented.Something really important that a professional needs to have is a good communication skill. (Shells, page 3, 2007) These skills are extremely important because you are dealing with many different type of people with different culture and different type of mind setting.

The skill that I and many other future medical students need to work on is communicating well with there, learn how to have a better perspective of judgment and soon I will have to learn how to work under stress. Everyday we learn new things and we should learn them even if they seem like they aren’t important but one day they will.
