Some factors that have influenced the rise of female athletes are the victory of Billie Jean King over Bobby Riggs, Nixon’s law “Title IX”, and the creation of the WNBA. “Mrs.King defeats Riggs 6-4,6-3,6-3”, this headline circled the United States and the world, announcing Billie Jean King’s victory over Bobby Riggs. In September 20, 1973, the professional tennis player, Billie Jean King, defeated world’s number one tennis player, Bobby Riggs.

This match was played for equal rights in tennis. After this game, the Women’s Tennis Association was created, and the prestigious U.S Open offered equal prize money.
