Even when there is a lifeguard or adult present it is always best to be cautious. It only takes a split second for something to go horribly wrong. As in anywhere else you go, it is always best to know your surroundings.

Watch for such things as broken glass, and rocks while swimming in lakes or beaches as these could pose a real hazard. No one would want to get hurt while swimming; another safety step to take is to always face the waves. When swimming in a wave pool, lake, or beach you wouldn’t want to be swept away from the shore so facing the waves could also alert you of high tides.

While swimming at beaches and lakes we need to take extra care when walking out into the water, there could be a drop-off that could easily go unnoticed. You could easily fall into some deep treacherous water. It is also very important to take into account the weather before swimming. If it starts to rain, quickly get out of the water and find a safe, dry spot away from the water and any trees, as these could be struck by lightning and cause some serious harm or damage. Always let the rain/storm pass before entering the water again.

Water parks are always a lot of fun but must also be approached with precaution. We would do well in checking the depth of the water before entering. It is never a good idea to run, push, or shove. You, yourself or someone else could trip, fall or get some pretty nasty scrapes and bruises or even worse yet, break some bones.

Wherever you are swimming remember to be cautious and to keep in mind your safety, and the safety of others. Be aware of your surroundings and of course, have fun!
