I chose this because it’s one of the most popularpieces of the Baroque era. This powerful piece takes text from the bible as thelyrics It should be saved as a good representation for a few reasons. It’s syllabicat times and repeats in higher registers several times. The song isplayed allegro and has the classic thick baroque texture with a mix ofhomophony, polyphony, and monophony. The mood expressed throughout the piecewas that of great joy. When “Hallelujah” is sung, it is almost a perfectcadence.

The dynamics can be described as terraced dynamics since the shiftsare sudden from loud to soft and back to loud again which is a strongcharacteristic of the Baroque Era. You can also hear the emphasis on the chordscompared to previous eras of music. It is a played by an unaccompanied cello and SuiteNo. 1 is the most popular of the suites. It mostly contains arpeggiated chords duringthe first half. The texture is polyphonic which coincides with the Late Baroquestyle. Most of this piece contains single note lines without any chords but wecan still hear the harmony thanks to the consistent arpeggiated notes.

(Badiarov). In the first half we can hear a contour moving down. There is asense of dissonance in the second part, but it seems to reconcile itself beforethe end of the piece. I think this is a great example of music in the LateBaroque era and deserves to be in this playlist.     2.

I chose thisparticular piece because it’s one of my favorites and is yet again a verypopular piece that most people alive today have probably heard. The texture ispolyphonic and very smooth. The song is played in Allegro and has a rich,lively mood and you can almost hear the violins imitating birds and the bassimitating thunderstorms (Schwarm). The dynamics in this song also shift fromsoft to loud which we can call terraced dynamics.

The pattern of the rhythm iscontinually revisited and the beat is very emphasized. These characteristicsrepresent the Baroque era in a nutshell which is why I feel it is verydeserving to be on this list
