Growing up in the projects is one of the best things that has ever happened to me.
This statement may seem strange considering I grew up with constant gunshots shooting and blaring sounds at midnight interrupting everyone’s sleep. Waking up to those sounds could be petrifying. However, being in that type of environment has given me the mentality to strive to do my best so that I can succeed and transcend the “limits” of growing up in a rough neighborhood. Living in the projects puts me in a category of low class and not being able to succeed. However, I believe through my resilient strength, consistent dedication, and my astounding ability to learn quickly, I can easily overcome the obstacles and predicaments of my environment.
My hopes and dreams are to My resilience and experiences have sculpted me to have a successful mindset and future because I have learned to cope with the circumstances I will face. I have learned strategies to help me overcome things that were difficult for me. I have worked hard all my life whether it was to knock down racial barriers against me, achieve a goal, or defeat my own circumstances.
Therefore, I feel prepared and ready to take on the challenge of life and result in success. All my life I have been working to excel and be great, growing up with this mentality I have sincerely dedicated to keeping this mentality pair it with my hard work and determination in order for me to succeed in life. I always strive to do my best regardless of any restrictions and hardships. To me success is having the ability to focus on myself and being able to reflect back on my life and feel contempt. To me success is enlarging my capability to do anything whether it’s simply making sweet potato pie better than my aunt or becoming the President. To me success is being able to help people in an effective way while still being able to satisfy my needs and not feel like they are a burden in my life.
To me success is to live my life to the fullest and understand my purpose in life; when I become of old age and get close to death I want to be ready because I’ve already done everything I desired, I don’t want to have any regrets and I want to die having left inspiration or a legacy behind me.”Hope is not a dream but a way of making dreams become reality.”- L.J Suenens”Hope lies in dreams, in imagination, and in the courage of those who dare dare to make dreams into reality.”-Unknown
