Figuring in recent years, the courts becoming more

Figuring out how certain backgrounds and subcultures contribute to a propensity to commit crimes, understanding how race or socioeconomic status may affect how law enforcement investigates, and the importance of social injustice are just some of the reasons why I would like to study Criminology. I’m also interested in offender rehabilitation, the lives of victims and whether we have a ‘soft’ justice system that Britain has been stereotyped to adopt. Despite, in recent years, the courts becoming more punitive with their punishments, I would argue that the notion of prisons being overcrowded has led to a growing culture of keeping people out of the courts so the option of sending someone to jail is not even there. More so, it is clearly apparent that the punishments that are being given out are not effective in deterring individuals from committing crime.
