INTRODUCTION

I. Attention Getting Device- How do you feel when you have to wait for something that you really, really want? Or what if it’s not even something you want but something you need in you daily life? Something you cannot live without?
A. Now imagine yourself in the hospital room waiting an organ that is important to your survival?
B. Imagine knowing that there are 116,000 other people in the same waiting list. Unfortunately the number in the waiting list is more than the number that have registered to become organ donor. And in every year, approximately 30,000 transplants were completed. They have to wait and wait for months even a year to receive a suitable organ due to a lack of organ donors. One of the waiting list for organ donors might someone you know.
A. (goo)While In Malaysia, only 1% of the Malaysian population or about 300,000 people have pledged to donate their organs. But there are over 20,000 people on the waiting list for transplants.
B. The organ that most people need are kidneys, heart, liver and lung.
II. Let me tell you the importance of organ donation.
A. (htt)Organ donation is the process of surgically removing an organ or tissue from one person (the organ donor) and placing it into another person (the recipient).
B. We need to be an organ donor because we could save up plenty of people that are in need.
1. (htt3)Did you know that based on Every Organ Donor, you can save up to fifty-eight lives by donating your organs. If there isn’t much for people to remember you after you are gone, I am surely they will remember your kindness for your act of organ donation.
a) Imagine! You can make people see, breathe, walk, smile, enjoy and enhance their quality of life. You have the power to save lives, why not you use it by donating the organ to them?
III. So today, I am standing right here to persuade all of you here to become organ donors because it can reduce lack of organs and open people’s eye about organ donation.

(Transition: Now, you may ask to yourself “What is the problem? Why do I need to become an organ donor?”)

BODY

I. Well ladies and gentlemen, I will begin telling you the need for organ donors.
A. People all over the world need organ transplants and they need our help.
1. The problem is that there is a lack of organs and organs donors who make transplants possible.
2. The organ donor can be a serious problem.
a) (htt1)Based on the statistics of United States Government Information on Organ Donation and Transplantation over 116,000 numbers of men, women and children on the national transplant waiting list as of August 2017 while 33,611 transplants were performed in 2016.
b) (htt1)20 people die each day waiting for a transplant. Every 10 minutes another person is added to the waiting list, an average only 3 in 1000 people die in a way that allows for organ donation.
c) Hence, organ donors are always in a short supply. The people who in need of a transplant are far exceeds than people willing to donate an organ.
B. The second problem is the families are reluctant to talk about transplants whether their relatives wanted to donate their organs.
1. Each year, hundreds of people are dying waiting for transplants.
a) More than three families a week are saying no to organ donation even though the relatives have signed the organ donor register and they have carrying a donor card which means a legal decision to donate.
b) But the hospital cannot proceed the operation because of the permission of the family.
2. (htt2)Based on National Health Service (NHS) Blood and Transplant audit of potential donors in 2016/17 shows families said no to donation because ‘they were not sure whether the patient would have agreed or not’.
a) (htt2)The surveys also show that more than 80% of people support organ donation but only 49% of people have ever talked about it.

(Transition: Now that you know the problem of organ donors, you may be asking yourself these questions: “How can I become an organ donor?”)

II. There are several ways to become organ donors.
A. Firstly, all you need to increase your understanding and awareness towards organ donation.
1. You need to register by filling out the form and submit it online.
a) You can indicate which organs you wish to donate in that form. The people can now get organ donor registration not only in the website but at the post offices also.Customers only need to fill the form and mail it with a 60 sen stamp to the National Transplant Resource Centre.
b) You will receive a donor card. You should sign it and always carry it with you. This will be as evidence so that your organs will be donate to the people in need.
2. Other than that, join the organization and campaign can increase the awareness and understanding of the organ donation.
a) Such as in Malaysia there is Malaysian Society of Transplantation where it act as nonprofit organization and active in the state and national health community and exchange of information that relate to the transplantation at both national and international levels.
b) This organization will co-operate and collaborate with government and non-governmental to promote of organ donation
c) Many activities and programs will organize to educate and encourage the public towards organ donation.
– such as do talks, seminars, provide expert professional advice on issues related to organ donation and tissue donation.
– Develop programs in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of end stage organ failure includes various aspects of transplantation.
d) This programs and organization besides increase public awareness about organ donation and transplant, it can also encourage people to join the society and share their donations with their family and friends.
B. Next, to solve the problem that relate to the families, the donor need to discuss with family.
1. You have to talk your decision to your family that you want to help the people.
a) It is important because they have their power dealing with the hospital after you died.
b) Many people does not realize that their family’s support is needed for organ donation to proceed. They will not know you want to save lives if you’ve never talked about your decision to be a donor.
2. A few words can make an extraordinary difference, talk about organ donation.
a) Maybe you can start a conversation by trying using a newspaper, TV story or social media that you have post, explain how donating your organs and tissue will improve. Make them confidence on your decisions
b) Maybe at the first sight, they will reject your decision, give them time to think about. All you need is time, one day they will accept your decision and they will think that you have made right decision.

(Transition: You can see that it is not difficult to be an organ donor. Now let’s look what will happen if you choose not to donate your organ.)

III. Well, let me tell you what will happen to the future if you do nothing
A. The problem arises when you are thinking on becoming a donor but you not do anything to donate your organs.
1. Then no one knows your wishes and the organ will not be donated.
2. The consequences of this are more people will be waiting on the waiting list and there is incredible shortage of available organs.
B. Could you imagine, you and your loved one could one day be a part of the people who need an organ donation and there is an organ shortage due to a lack of organ donors. If nothing is done to increase the number of organ donors, your loved one will slowly dying and face painful death.

CONCLUSION

I. As a conclusion, donating your organs can be the one decision you ever make and the greatest gift you could ever give because it relate to the lives of someone.
II. I have told you the need for organ donors, how you can become an organ donor and what will happen if you not sign up as organ donor. If we do not do anything now, who will be supposed to do? So, let’s be an organ donor by sill out and sign a donor card, joining the organization and campaign besides talk to your family and making sure they know that you want to be a donor.
III. (htt4)I am going to leave you with a short message from Michael Jordan who is a sponsor for the Iowa LifeGift Coalition on Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness. “Please make the decision to become an organ and tissue donor. Remember. Share your life. Share your decision. If more people decide to share their life, many lives can be saved, and the organ donation will be decrease and maybe even non-existent.
