Developing Filipino EntrepreneursAs a graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Management, and now working on non-government organization handling entrepreneurship and business management training nationwide, I would like my thesis to focus on “Developing Filipino Entrepreneurs”.

The challenges faced by our country today are unemployment and poverty. The unemployment rate in January 2018 was estimated at 5.3 percent. By educational attainment, 21.9 percent of the unemployed were college graduates, 13.7 percent were college undergraduates, and 29.

4 percent have completed junior high school. With solid economic fundamentals, the Philippines is well-placed to speed up poverty reduction. The challenge is to provide more economic opportunities, which would help many more people earn higher and stable incomes. Entrepreneurship can provide the solution by creating wealth, jobs, and social empowerment. If we are to address the issue of poverty with some degree of success, history tells us we have no choice but to actively encourage entrepreneurial ventures. Even though our youth today has an ability of being an entrepreneur, still there are a lot of challenges that they may face.

The biggest challenge the country faces in promoting entrepreneurship to the youth is to develop their capabilities and skills in starting and growing their own businesses. Education can be a big help, however our education system is not enough. We can learn theories and principles but they are not giving enough attention to training and entrepreneurial capacity building.

Education for the most part remains focused on training students to be employees.
