“Columbus had set out to sea to discover the unknown with an idea of finding a route to Asia to trade for spices, gold and pearls yet the three ships that he led went off track and ended up in America also known as the New World. Columbus lived in the time known as the ‘Renaissance’ which means rebirth or revival which was between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. It was a period of time in Europe with new discoveries and ideas. Columbus reached his death in 1506 being credited for opening up colonisation for the Americans to Europeans and being blamed for destruction of native people on the islands that he explored.”** “In 1492, he sailed across the Atlantic from Spain in the Santa Maria, with the Pinta and the Niña ships alongside, hoping to find a new route to India.
Between 1492 and 1504, he made a total of four voyages to the Caribbean and South America and has been credited for opening up the Americas to European colonization.”***
