According the establishment and acquire its better

According to Prof.

Al-Sharif (2017), planning elevator systems in buildings must have considerations in order for it to function well and help the establishment serve its purpose. The engineers and architects must assess the demands based on the type of building, whether it is a university, airport, hospitals or office. There are many factors that must be considered in planning a complex design of elevator in hospitals especially in public hospitals. These factors can contribute to the efficiency of the establishment and acquire its better service in terms of transporting patients and helping the visitors move around the hospital.

In designing an elevator two parameters are being observed, its quality and quantity.A hospital requires an immediate response of the facilities in every situations especially transporting of patients. One of the struggles that many hospitals face is the patient flow management since inpatients are usually using different facilities and resources from time to time. Some hospitals suffer from congestions in times of mass emergencies like fire, during special occasions, multiple car accidents and such as seen in Lau’s study about hospital lifts (2015).

Carr (2017) also suggests that elevators, stairs and escalators must be accessible in any time to avoid travelling great distances that may disrupt operations and may eventually lead to adverse effect. The design of the elevator affects the function and the quality of service of the hospital. The efficiency of the elevators helps the staffs and any hospital personnel execute their works and tasks sophisticatedly. According to Awang, Chua and Ali (2017), hospitals caters different kind of person who needs treatment, surgeries, therapies and other cure and the quality of facilities that it can offer to those patients must also be considered. Person with disabilities faces different challenges even inside the hospital. These kinds of patients need a best quality of facilities like elevators with high maintenance to help them move around the establishment.

Maintenance plays a big role in keeping the establishment functioning continuously with the same quality of service. It can affect the PWD’s daily lives condition if the maintenance of the lift is not properly addressed which can lead to their safety issues inside the building. In the recent study of Sahamir (2018), it was mentioned that the sustainability of lifts in hospitals must be considered in planning. Lifts works with the help of different types of machines or motors like synchronous motors, hydraulic motors, induction motors, regenerative machines and etc. According to Yetis (2017), linear permanent magnet synchronous motors are usually used in modern elevators which use less energy consumption. This motor is powered with the use of rare-earth permanent magnet and is a gearless machine. It ensures the lowest noise level, excellent controllability and its compact design. This type of motor will help the elevators in a hospital perform without comprising the efficiency of the staffs work.

As specified in the article written by Nc, Vompolu, and Abhishek (2016), mechanical system type of elevators that uses screws, timing belt-drives and rack can go through to various incommodities such as belt-stretching, mechanical windup, backlash, which will cause the lift to malfunction and may damage the possible passengers. According to Shukla (2018), the construction of elevators may be crucial in process because there are a lot of considerations that must be taken before coming up with the final plan. A lift can either be a modern type, institutional type, commercial type, or residential type depending on the type of establishment. In a study of Tetley (2015) in a hospital, there must be an installed emergency elevator for emergency patients, elevators for trauma patients, and such. There must be components in the elevator to make it modernized and ensure that it can handle traffic flow and will last longer. It is also stated there that cab pads can help to protect the interior walls of the elevator cabs from any scratch.

Door operator conversion package can also be added for smooth door opening and closing. And an electronic door edge protection may help to avoid premature door closings. During blackouts, there must be an emergency light installed in the elevator to keep it illuminated and ensure safety to the passengers. In the recent study of Simon (2018), states that electric-powered elevators are widely used. This electric elevator uses either DC or direct current motors or AC or alternating current motor which has two types; the geared motor which has a speed of 153 meters per minute and direct-drive motors that has a higher speed or at 610 meters per minute.

There are safety mechanisms in the elevator that can prevent an accident during its sudden propelling or moving when the elevator door is not completely closed and these are called electromechanical door interlocks. There are also same door interlocks on the door of every floor to prevent it from opening when the elevator is not present. Elevators must also be equipped with telephone and a trap door in the ceiling if it becomes stuck between floors. The synchronous motor that is used in lifts or elevators has traction sheave and fitted brake to prevent it from plunging. This type of motor employs the permanent magnet motor technology with its efficiency and smooth operating. This latest design of synchronous motor enables the company or hospital save energy and space since its machine does not need a huge space to cover as stated in Morling (2012) study. As specified in King, Perreault, Clark, Thornton, Young and Botasso’s study, transport systems that use a linear synchronous motor in its design allows the system to propel smoothly with precise control.

This design enables the system to create propulsive force and without producing attractive force which makes the vehicle or the system suspend mid-air. This invention has been conceptualized based on the nature of elevator systems.
