Statement: Although the K-12 program will improve the quality of education in
our country, it should be postponed.
Needless to say, the Department of
Education had implemented a new curriculum called K-12 education system under
the administration of former president Benigno Aquino III which is a very
critical decision under his administration. As Nelson Mandela says, “Education
is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Education
plays an important role for everyone throughout his/ her life. Getting proper
education is very necessary to achieve your goals and succeed just like food is
necessary for the body but will K-12 really be a help to achieve a better
society or is it just a waste of time and money for the students and parents?
Program serves as the nation’s response to the test of creating an education
system that sticks to the global standard and produces graduates who can compete
in the global domain. This program requires Kindergarten and 12 years of basic
education (six years of primary education, four years of junior high school and
two years of senior high school) to help students meet the required level of
competencies and prepare graduates for tertiary education, entrepreneurship and
the government implemented the said program, many Filipinos reacted and
expressed their opinions especially the parents who will be the first one to be
affected. However, not everyone is in favor of K-12. The parents think that it
is just additional expense in their part and the students complain because of
the additional years in school. Instead of having ten years of education, this
curriculum adds two more years to the basic education. Also, it has a spiral
approach which will make students more prepared in every subject-related task.
In addition, the graduates of this program will be more qualified to enter the
labor force and they will be of the right age by the time they accomplished the
specifications of the program.
