ThesisStatement: Although the K-12 program will improve the quality of education inour country, it should be postponed.            Needless to say, the Department ofEducation had implemented a new curriculum called K-12 education system underthe administration of former president Benigno Aquino III which is a verycritical decision under his administration.

As Nelson Mandela says, “Educationis the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Educationplays an important role for everyone throughout his/ her life. Getting propereducation is very necessary to achieve your goals and succeed just like food isnecessary for the body but will K-12 really be a help to achieve a bettersociety or is it just a waste of time and money for the students and parents?The K-12Program serves as the nation’s response to the test of creating an educationsystem that sticks to the global standard and produces graduates who can competein the global domain. This program requires Kindergarten and 12 years of basiceducation (six years of primary education, four years of junior high school andtwo years of senior high school) to help students meet the required level ofcompetencies and prepare graduates for tertiary education, entrepreneurship andemployment.Whenthe government implemented the said program, many Filipinos reacted andexpressed their opinions especially the parents who will be the first one to beaffected.

However, not everyone is in favor of K-12. The parents think that itis just additional expense in their part and the students complain because ofthe additional years in school. Instead of having ten years of education, thiscurriculum adds two more years to the basic education. Also, it has a spiralapproach which will make students more prepared in every subject-related task.In addition, the graduates of this program will be more qualified to enter thelabor force and they will be of the right age by the time they accomplished thespecifications of the program.
