2 The relevant policy and age related expectations of learners relevant to literacy development in the setting.When working with children in a school setting you need to have access to the schools English policy, this is an outline of the expectations for reading, writing, spoken, spelling, punctuation and grammar for each level and each group year. They are taught to speak and write fluently so they can communicate well with others. The aims for a child to be able to read fluently so they can express their emotions when reading and to feed their imagination.

Reading also helps the child to gather knowledge and expand on what they already know.The national curriculum for English for both key stage 1 and 2 aims towards helping the child fulfil their potential.Reading• Read all 40 + phonemes :- ee, air, ar, ow, oo.

• Use blending sounds :- cat, nap, pin, tap.• Recognise phonics rules and read them correctly.• Read words known as GPCS and plurals.• Read fluently at their own level.

• Listen and discuss poems, stories, non fiction.• Re tell stories and join in with familiar phrases in books.• Learn poems and texts off by heart.• Self correct their reading.• Predict the outcomes.

Writing• Spell the days of the week.• Spell words that contain 40 + phonemes.• Name in order the letters of the alphabet.• Add suffixes and prefixes.• Write from memory simple sentences that include words using GPCS.• Learn to spell common exception words.• Use suffixes to spell longer words.Handwriting• Sit correctly at the table and hold pencil correctly.• Write lower case letters staring and finishing in the right place.• Write digits 1-9.• Understand which letters belong to which family.• Write in sentences.• Read aloud what they have wrote.• Leaving finger spaces.• Writing joined up.• Punctuate sentences.• Use capitals for names, places, days of the week.• Write about real life.• Write poetry.• Plan what they want to write
